The Oberndorf-Story
Written by Andy
Hello!
The U19 tournament in Oberndorf/Germany is over and Arsenal won the cup.
I'm living near munich and went to Oberndorf (5 hours from Munich) to
see the Boyz. My friend Lukas
from Freiburg was also hear and another Reggae Boyz Fan from Germany,
who called Frog.
First, I went to Freiburg
and at Friday we drove to Oberndorf, together with Lukas and 2 friends
(one of them is also a big jamaican fan: Felix, the wicked man from Germany).
It was a very good feeling, when we arrived in Oberndorf and we found
the hotel very fast.
We went to the stadium
and for the first time in my life I saw Carl Brown together with Bell.
I talked with him shortly and shaked hands.
17.10 the time and
the Reggae Boyz will play the first game in Oberndorf.
SC Freiburg - Reggae Boyz U20 3-0 (2-0)
Match report: The game was very hard (4 yellow cards in 25 minutes) and
Freiburg dominated the first half. They scored 2 goals in the first ten
minutes. The Reggae Boyz weren't on the pitch and Carl Brown screamed
from the bench (Downswell was very calm). But in the second half the Reggae
Boyz showed there true strength. But they wasted to many chances and Freiburg
scored with a direct freekick. 0-3 for Freiburg, also the end result.
Moodie, Bernard and Priestley
were the players, who showed there skills. Wong is also very talented,
but he dribbled too much and didn't see his teammates.
This was the first day in Oberndorf.
....and now the seond
day!
Botafoga - Reggae Boyz
U20 1-1 (1-0)
Frog arrived in Oberndorf and the Boyz played against Botafoga. They played
a good first half, but Botafoga scored, because the defence made an error.
The second half was much better than the second half against Freiburg
a day before. They had many chances, especially trought Shelton, Thompson
and Priestley. In the final
minute Thompson scored a fine goal. 1-1 and the final whistle. Thompson
was very skillful, also Bernard in defence. He looked like Onandi Lowe,
was the captain and had the same jersey number (#31) as the big man.
After a short break
the Boyz played against Vitesse Arnheim. I
had the pleasure to spoke with masseur Pablo about the Gold Cup and the
Reggae Boyz. He said, that
Darren Byfield is a fantastic player and the 16 years old Newcastle defender
is unbelieveble. Many children's
wanted autographs from the Reggae Boyz players and also from us, because
they thought, that we are also players from Jamaica (white players). We
also weared the same jerseys. I
spoke with Carl Brown and he said, that Cleveland Taylor is in Bolton,
because he is in the 25 squad for Bolton.
Vitesse Arnheim -
Reggae Boyz U20 0-0
The Reggae Boyz controlled almost the whole game and had many chances,
but scored no goal. We need a goalscorer for the U20 team, maybe Cleveland
Taylor had scored goals. The
Boyz played very hard and made pressure. Only
one goal and the boyz moved in the half final.
After the game, the
boyz leave for lunch. Together with Patrick I searched the boyz and we
found Thompson, the Taylor brothers and another one. We talked with them
and made photos. The Reggae
Boyz U20 are very nice and tha Girlz in Germany screamed for them.
....the last day in
Oberndorf
It was the last day for the Reggae Boyz and also for me in Oberndorf.
The last game was against a very good team: Athletico Madrid. The game
decided place number 7 in that tournament. The boyz played another good
game, but they didn't score. Atletico scored the first goal and I thought
that the boyz go down. But that was an error. The boyz fighted in the
second half, Bernard won every duel and was also very good in the air
and passing. Bernard is a gem, also Teddy (Luton) and the new goalie Ryan
Thompson. Three minutes from
the end the boyz scored for the second time in this tournament and the
goalscorer was again Thompson. He
is very small, but can scored goals. The
game ended 1-1
After the game: penalty
kick. The first jamaican player scored and Thompson saved the first. But
Wong and Howard missed. The game was over and the Reggae Boyz got fries.
I talked with the players
and they are very nice guys. Carl
Brown gave us his card and Uhlsport invited the U20 again for the tournament
next year.
And here the players,
who made the German Reggae Boyz supporter proud and happy:
3 Ricardo Taylor 30.01.86
Played the last game and looked good. He is a left-back.
6 Keniel Moodie 29.07.86
Moodie played 2 games in central defence together with Bernard. He is
talented but must improve! A man to watch in the future.
7 Duran Myton 08.01.85
Played 2 games, but not so good. Must improve if he will go with the team
in the future. Played on the right side or in the middle.
8 Troy Watson 30.01.87
Very young guy. He played one game in midfield.
9 Howard Wong 15.03.85
He played 3 games. Good dribbling, but he didn't see his teammates and
loose the ball too often.
10 Rafe Wolfe 19.12.85
He played every game, but he isn't a number 10. He isn't a playmaker.
Nothing.
11 Akeem Priestly 13.04.85
He played every game and he showed great skill. He will be the new Bibi
(also the same side), if he continue his form.
13 Dwayne Kerr 16.01.87
He played 1 game. The former U17 goalie made one mistake and wasn't really
good.
14 Luton Shelton 11.11.85
He played also every game. Luton is a very talented forward, who also
trained at Bolton. No goal, but great skill. We'll see him in the A-Team
in the future, believe me.
16 Wade Spence 06.07.85
Played 2 games. Not ready for the U20.
17 Merrick Howard 18.07.85
He played 3 games and sometimes he showed great skills, but not too often.
18 Sean Mason 13.06.85
He played 3 times and is talented, but he made some mistakes.
19 Jermaine Taylor 14.01.85
Jermaine played 2 games. He played on the right side like Sinclair and
Ziadie. Good tackles and also a skillful boy.
20 Nickoli Finellayson
19.12.85
He played every game, although he is new in the programm. He played central
defender and better than Moodie. Ok, he made some mistakes, but is skillfull.
21 Dean Thompson 21.05.85
He played 3 games and scored 2 goals. He is a very small guy, but he can
score goals and that counts. The best man on the pitch and maybe the best
Reggae Boyz at this tournament.
30 Ryan Thompson 07.01.85
He played 3 games and looked good. He saved one penalty and is very good
at the line. I talked with him and he is a very nice guy.
31 Kieron Bernard 02.08.85
Played every game and the boss on the field. He is the real deal. A true
captain, who played at central defence. Very good in the air. He is the
new Claude Davis.
See you next year again in Germany. You are welcome! Next year again.
