-- Jamaica's Reggae Boyz handed an anemic looking El Salvador
aggregation 3-0 at the National Stadium, in a game that marked
the sixth anniversary of Jamaica's qualification to the World
Cup Finals in France in 1998. Goals by English-based trio, Ricardo
Fuller (Preston North End), Kevin Lisbie (Charlton Athletic) and
Deon Burton (Swindon) left no doubt as to the superior side in
this friendly international.
The Boyz immediately took control and scored after
only six minutes as Fuller latched on to an Ian Goodison's long
pass and calmly eluded goalkeeper, Santos Rivera, before slotting
home. Jamaica continued to dictate play led by captain Theodore
Whitmore, Micah Hyde, Ricardo Fuller, Ricardo Gardner and Lisbie
as they launched numerous attacks on the Salvadorian defense.
Kevin Lisbie collected a well-measured long pass from Gardner
in the 72 minutes and blasted it off the posts past Rivera, to
put Jamaica up by two goals. Deon Burton, who replaced Ricardo
Fuller the 65th minute, scored in the 85th minute after collecting
a perfect pass from Ricardo Gardner to score his first national
goal in over two years.
Technical director, Carl Brown, said that he was
pleased with his team's performance. He said "We did what
we had to do, we stepped up a gear in the second half and got
two goals". Brown also had high marks for Mica Hyde and Ian
"Pepe" Goodison.
